DOH explains absence of UAE travel restriction after detection of Covid variant case

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines did not impose a travel restriction on travellers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) because it did not report presence of the new COVID-19 variant, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said Thursday, a day after a male after arriving from Dubai last week.

“Unang una, hindi po sila nag report kung meron ba silang UK variant. Wala po silang lumalabas na batayan para sabihin na sila ay meron na,” Duque said in a televised briefing.

(First of all, they did not report if they have the UK variant. They did not have basis to declare it.)
