Fil-Am youth education, dance program to celebrate 5th year
SAN FRANCISCO, California—American Center of Philippine Arts is celebrating the fifth year of its Student Enriched in Education and Dance (SEED) program and launching its College Fund Program at 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, in Oakland Asian Cultural Center in Oakland Chinatown.
California Assembly member Rob Bonta will be the honored guest. The event will highlight the SEED program’s accomplishments and feature performances by the youths in the program, a silent auction of local San Francisco Bay Area artists’ works, and raffle drawings. The organization will be giving away the following:
Top Prize: X-600 High performance electric scooter (retail price: $500)
2nd Prize: Kindle Fire HD
3rd Price: $100 Target Gift Card
Dinner and drinks will be served and there will be a lot of dancing. All proceeds benefit ACPA’s Students Enriched in Education & Dance (S.E.E.D.) Youth Program. Tickets are $50.00 per person. Semi-formal attire, Philippine-inspired fashion are encouraged.

The SEED Youth Program was established to teach Philippine folk dance to youth ages 5-17:
as a tool for students to learn about Philippine arts and nurture cultural pride and identity;
Article continues after this advertisementto build a platform for students to perform publicly and share Philippine cultural arts to diverse audiences; and
to create a safe, performing arts space for students to gain confidence, self-respect, and a sense of community.
The program believes that youth who have positive experiences in cultural or ethnic identity are less likely to have depression, aggression, and/or put themselves in at-risk situations. The SEED Youth program seeks to provide these positive experiences to the youth through Philippine cultural dance.
ACPA was founded in February 2009 to provide a unique educational and developmental platform for multidisciplinary Philippine arts through innovative hands-on classes, collaborations, networking opportunities, and showcasing events. ACPA strives to nurture both traditional and progressive Philippine arts to strengthen the Filipino community and ethnic identity.
