Int’l organization vows to continue aid for Yolanda survivors

MANILA, Philippines—An international humanitarian organization has committed continued support to Eastern Visayas a month after Supertyphoon “Yolanda” ravaged the area.

In a report at the website of the Philippines News Agency, humanitarian organization Oxfam, an international confederation against poverty, has said that rehabilitation on Eastern Visayas would not be completed in a few months but may take years.

Oxfam spokesperson Ian Brail said that his organization looked forward to extend the aid to almost 500,000 survivors after helping 250,000 more.

“We will be there until the job is done, this is going to be a long, long recovery,” Brail said.

Oxfam, in coordination with the local authorities, has prioritized the restoration of the water supply in Tacloban and the clearance of debris and other emergency works.

Blair added that Oxfam has distributed thousands of hygiene kits and aquatabs to prevent the spread of water borne diseases.

In the middle of December, Oxfam would distribute 10,000 sacks of rice seeds to farmers and the organization also helped farmers clean rice fields in preparation for the cropping season.
