Lawmaker, community groups to hold free health fair
OAKLAND, California–Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) and Oakland-based Ramsell Corporation are hosting a community health fair and forum on Saturday, September 28, offering families, students, adults and seniors free health screenings and information on affordable health insurance.
The fair starts at 11 a.m. (forum starts at 11:30 a.m.) and goes on until 2 p.m. at Laney College (Gymnasium, Quad, and Forum) 900 Fallon Street, Oakland.
With support from the Alameda County Public Health Department, Laney College, and the Peralta Colleges Foundation, over 60 organizations will provide screenings for obesity, blood pressure, cholesterol, vision, hearing and dental care.
There will also be massages, haircuts, hand treatments, face painting, healthy food and giveaways. Individuals are also invited to learn how the new health care law will affect them.
Speakers include Assemblymember Rob Bonta, Alex Briscoe (Alameda County Health Care Services Director), Sherry Hirota (Asian Health Services CEO), Ingrid Lamirault (Alameda Alliance CEO), Gayle Akins (NAACP – Covered California), Eric Flowers (Ramsell Corporation), and Dr. Elnora Webb.
“Over 200,000 Alameda County residents are currently living without health insurance and are suffering from fragmented health care and a devastating lack of preventive care,” explained Assemblymember Bonta.

The Affordable Care Act brings us one step closer to providing our most vulnerable communities access to health care options that best meet their needs to stay healthy.”
