No Filipino casualty in Canada quake – DFA

MANILA, Philippines – No Filipino was injured in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that rocked an island off the west coast of Canada Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Foreign affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez said that according to the Philippine consul general in Vancouver the quake happened in Charlotte Islands which he said was a “remote and sparsely populated area in British Columbia.”

“No Filipino was reported to have been affected by the earthquake,” Hernandez said in a text message.

But Hernandez said the Philippine consulate in Vancouver “continues to monitor developments and is in touch with the Canadian authorities and the Filipino community leaders in the area.”
