PH, Australian cops forge anti-terrorism agreement

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to enhance the cooperation between the two police forces in fighting terrorism and cross-border crimes.
In a statement, PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said the accord “marks a new beginning in bilateral relations” between the police forces of both countries.
“The (agreement) seeks to develop sound law enforcement and criminal intelligence capabilities to provide opportunities for the sharing of information,” Bartolome said.
He said it also “acknowledges the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries” in preventing criminal activities that “may pose a very real danger to the stability and security” of the Philippines and Australia.
The agreement was signed by Bartolome and AFP Commissioner Tony Negus in Canberra, Australia, on Tuesday.
