AFP keeps up intelligence on terror groups as world marks 9-11 anniversary
MANILA, Philippines — Osama bin Laden is dead but the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is not letting its guard down as the world marks on Tuesday the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
Colonel Arnulfo Burgos Jr., AFP spokesperson, said the military’s intelligence units had intensified their monitoring of terrorist groups.
“The AFP has not monitored any specific threat. However, we will continue to intensify intelligence collection efforts and our networking with other law enforcement agencies,” Burgos said.
Burgos said the groups being monitored included the Abu Sayyaf bandits and the communist New People’s Army.
He said the killing of Bin Laden, leader of the Al Qaida terror network, in a US raid in Pakistan in 2011 should not lead to complacency.
