Filipino artists called to join 6th International Manga Awards

MANILA, Philippines – Creative and innovative Filipino artists are being called to join in the Sixth International Manga Awards, the Embassy of Japan announced Thursday.
The Japan Information and Culture Center said in a statement that they were “inviting all creative and innovative Filipino manga artists to intensify their imaginative skills and make their own original masterpieces.”
Manga is famous worldwide as Japanese comics and is greatly influential in Japanese popular culture.
“Filipino manga artists continue to take pride in creating unique masterpieces that eventually lead to global recognition,” it said.
Filipino artists received recognition from the International Manga Award back in 2007, when the awards began, and in 2008, it said.
Article continues after this advertisementThe awards “was created to recognize the contribution of manga artists and their significant role in the promotion of manga worldwide,” it said.
Article continues after this advertisement“At present, manga has remarkably reached its ultimate hype and popularity and still continues to influence many comic book artists from around the world,” the Japanese Embassy said.
For this year’s awards, the winning Manga artist will receive a Gold Award while three distinguished works will receive a Silver Award each.
All winners will go to Japan for ten days to attend the Awarding Ceremony in Tokyo in January 2013.
Entries will be accepted up to June 15, 2012 according to the International Manga Awards website at www.manga-award.jp. Application forms and more information can also be found at the site.
