Fil-Ams mount art exhibit to celebrate Philippine Independence

MANILA, Philippines—Filipino-American artists in metropolitan Washington held an art exhibition to commemorate the 113th anniversary of the Philippine Independence, the  Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. said.

Titled Brown Strokes on a White Canvas, the exhibit featured 27 Fil-Am artists, the embassy said in a statement.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. congratulated Julian Oteyza and the Philippine American Foundation for Charities for organizing the art exhibition.

Cuisia noted that Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, whose 150th birth anniversary is being celebrated this year, was also a gifted artist.

During the opening reception, the guests were treated to a violin performance by Korina Ysabel Baraceros, who played Philippine classics Hatinggabi and Dalagang Pilipina.

The exhibit ended Friday last week.
