PH reiterates calls for ‘immediate ceasefire’ in Gaza

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Thursday reiterated its call for an “immediate” ceasefire, release of hostages, and delivery of humanitarian aid in Gaza.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) made the pronouncement as it commended collaborative efforts of member states of the United Nations (UN) Security Council in crafting Resolution S/RES/2735, “which underscores the urgent need to address the escalating crisis in Gaza.”
According to the DFA, the resolution reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to upholding peace and stability in the region.
“The Philippines reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire, the safe release of hostages, and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza,” the DFA said in a statement.
“The prompt implementation of the measures is imperative to alleviate the suffering of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire,” it added.

Article continues after this advertisementThe DFA also expressed the Philippines’ commitment to support all efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the siege of Gaza.
“The country stands ready to contribute to initiatives that foster stability, security, and peace in the region,” it said.
Israel has been laying siege on Palestine, relentlessly bombing the country and leaving over 36,000 people dead.
In May, Israel’s bombardment of the southern Gaza city of Rafah forced a total of 800,000 people to flee, according to the UN.
The bombardment in Rafah also led to a number civilian deaths after a camp housing displaced Palestinians was caught in the attack.
