3 American sex offenders barred from entering PH

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Saturday that three Americans were not allowed to enter the country due to their record as convicted sex offenders.

According to the BI, two were apprehended at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), while the other was stopped at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

On April 25, David Uland, 81, arrived in NAIA from Taipei, Taiwan. The BI said that Uland was reportedly convicted in 1999 for molesting a minor.

Meanwhile, 64-year-old Peter Cruz also arrived at the NAIA from Guam, and the agency said that he was convicted twice due to sexual misconduct with a minor.

Clarence Nique, 56, arrived from Taipei at the MCIA. Nique was allegedly convicted of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree with a minor.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement that the three were returned to their port of origin and they will not be allowed to return to the Philippines.
