DWM says another Filipino injured in Hong Kong fire

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Thursday that another Filipino was injured in the large fire that broke out in Hong Kong’s Kowloon District on April 10.

DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Cacdac said the latest information brought to two the total number of Filipinos in Hong Kong injured by the fire.

“Sa Hong Kong po merong two reported injured. Both minor injuries – isang male, isang female (In Hong Kong, there are two reported injuries. Both minor injuries one male and one female),” he said during an interview over DZBB.

According to Cacdac, the male Filipino sustained wounds from broken glass while the Filipina inhaled smoke.

“Both are safe [and] out of harm’s way. That is the report that we have so far. Of course, we are constantly monitoring the situation together with our migrant workers office and our Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong,” he added.

Hong Kong media reported that the blaze started at a gym on the first floor of a 200-unit building in the Jordan neighborhood of Kowloon District.

It also reported that the fire killed five people and injured at least 30.
