Bongbong Marcos wants expanded PH-Brazil ties

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. wants to explore more avenues to expand the bilateral relationship of the Philippines with Brazil.

Marcos made the commitment as he welcomed Brazilian Ambassador-designate Gilberto Fonseca Guimarães de Moura and accepted his credentials in Malacañang on Tuesday afternoon.

“I wish you an enjoyable and fulfilling stay here in our country and I hope you will experience the warm hospitality of the Filipino people,” the President stated.

The diplomatic relationship between the two countries was established in 1946 and its 78th anniversary will be marked in July this year.

Since then,  Brazil has become one of the valued partners of the Philippines when it comes to, defense, and environmental protection.

Marcos expressed hopes for further collaboration in these areas.

 Meanwhile, Marcos also said he is looking forward to Brazil’s hosting of the 30th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2025.

“Brazil is a powerful voice in marshaling collective action towards the protection of the environment and addressing the effects of climate change, which is the foremost existential threat to our species today,” Marcos noted.
