A piece of the Sistine Chapel is now in the heart of BGC.

The Globe Tower (TGT), the headquarters of leading digital solutions platform Globe in Taguig City’s central business district BGC, is now host to a breathtaking reproduction of Michelangelo’s renowned fresco, “The Last Judgment,” from the iconic Sistine Chapel. This captivating display, brought to the Philippines by Globe and ATIN Global, serves as a teaser for the full exhibition currently at the Estancia Mall in Pasig City.

FEATURED STORIES

For a full month, the reproduction of the fresco can be viewed at the lobby of TGT, complete with music and a peculiar scent from the Renaissance era to give spectators a taste of the full exhibition.

Co shared the motivation to introduce this globally celebrated “Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition,” inspired by her family’s memorable encounter with the exhibit in Vancouver in 2021.

“Having been fortunate enough to go to the real Sistine Chapel, we felt that the experience was a little short.  You couldn’t really understand the art pieces because of the thousands of other tourists and the limited time you had inside. But with this exhibition, we were able to see every detail and every intricacy of each of the frescoes, which was an amazing experience for our family. So we thought we would love to bring it here. There are Filipinos who have been to the Sistine Chapel who want to understand it better and those who may not have the same opportunity to fly to the Vatican to experience it,” she said.

Apart from making world-class art accessible to the public, the exhibition also aims to help battle involuntary hunger in the Philippines at a time when an estimated 13.5 million Filipinos* continue to grapple with their daily sustenance. A portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold at the exhibit will go to the Hapag Movement, a Globe-led program that combats hunger and unemployment through supplemental feeding and livelihood initiatives.

“We understand that the beauty of the Sistine Chapel may be out of reach for many so this exhibition aims to bring such great art to a wider audience. But more than appreciation for art, it carries a deeper purpose. It is also an avenue to alleviate the hunger that plagues many Filipinos. As we immerse in the magnificence of these masterpieces, we also extend a helping hand to those in need,” said Crisanto.

The exhibition is the first in Southeast Asia, after touring over 100 cities worldwide. It features life-size reprints of 34 of Michelangelo’s most renowned frescoes. The immersive experience also includes Renaissance music curated by Manila Symphony Orchestra conductor Marlon Chan and period-accurate scents chosen by Co.
