US, Saudi employers keen on hiring OFWs displaced in Sudan – Ople

WASHINGTON, DC, United States — Employers in the US and Saudi Arabia are interested in hiring overseas Filipino workers displaced by the civil war in Sudan, Migrant Workers’ Secretary Susan Ople disclosed Wednesday , May 3 (US time).

Ople said 77 out of the 340 OFWs in Sudan to be repatriated to Manila had already landed in Saudi Arabia and 83 others would arrive in Riyadh on Thursday.

She said the DMW was working on securing employment opportunities for these OFWs.

“There are employers in the US and also in the cruise ship industry and in Saudi Arabia that are very much interested and would like to see the profiles of our workers from Sudan,” Ople told reporters in a press briefing here.

She said the OFWs in Sudan included skilled workers such as international school teachers, nurses, construction workers, and engineers.

She also gave assurance to the OFWs that the government will give livelihood aid of as much as P100,000 to them to give them a “fresh start in life.”

Ople also said that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was “very much concerned” and is always updated on the government’s repatriation efforts.
