SM Prime awarded for Compliance
Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Electrical Engineering (BEE) and the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE) awarded SM Prime malls’ Certificates of Compliance to RA 7920 or the Electrical Engineering Law and Plaque of Appreciation, respectively. Awarding ceremony was done in the SM Prime Head Office in Pasay City on January 31, 2022. The awards were received by managers and executives of the company headed by Engr. Teodoro “Boyet” S. Bautista, VP of EDD Operations and Engr. Liza B. Silerio, VP of Corporate Compliance.
SM Prime was recognized for the employment of electrical engineers which even exceeded the minimum requirement of the law under Sec.33(b) of RA 7920, and Sec.36, Posting of Certificates in conspicuous places.
PRC BEE Chairman Engr. Francis V. Mapile in his speech emphasized the need to have a culture of compliance in any organization especially in big organizations like SM which should be the benchmark in the Philippines. For his part, IIEE National President, Engr. Lyndon R. Bague said that the IIEE is the only accredited professional organization of electrical practitioners accredited by the PRC and they are thankful for the full support of SM Prime for the implementation of RA 7920.
Atty. Pearly Joan Jayagan Turley, Asst. Vice President for Corporate Compliance, speaking on behalf of SM Prime affirmed the commitment of the conglomerate in regulatory compliance. She revealed that it was Mr. Hans T. Sy, Chairman of the Executive Committee, who institutionalized the compliance group in the company. Atty. Turley further stated that “in SM compliance is a mindset. It is about doing the right thing.”
