Filipinos in Ukraine urged to keep lines open as DFA on alert for repatriation requests

MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos in Ukraine were urged to keep communication lines open as the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) coordinates closely with its foreign service posts concerning the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who may wish to go back home.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs is in close coordination with its Foreign Service Posts in the region on arrangements to bring home the Overseas Filipinos (OFs) in Ukraine who may wish to return to the Philippines,” the DFA said in a statement on Tuesday.
“We urge Filipinos in Ukraine to keep communication lines with the Philippine Embassy in Poland open, and wait for updates, bulletins, and safety instructions,” it added.
The Philippine Embassy in Poland has jurisdiction over Ukraine.
“The situation at Ukraine’s border remains fluid, and security conditions could change at any moment,” the DFA said.
Article continues after this advertisementThe DFA said it is also in discussions with the Filipino community there as well as other governments and international partners regarding Filipino nationals who would want to relocate to “more secure areas.”
