ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—Police on Thursday said they rescued 33 persons, eight of them children, who had been illegally recruited in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi for supposed overseas jobs.

Their recruiter, however, eluded arrest.

Senior Superintendent Rodelio Jocson, Tawi-Tawi police chief, said the rescued individuals were to be brought to Malaysia and were intercepted on November 29.

He said a certain Ustadz Mustafa had enticed the victims, some coming from as far as Pampanga, Bataan and Batangas, to apply for jobs in Malaysia.
