Asean sees rise in new COVID-19 cases but fewer deaths

BANGKOK — The number of new Covid-19 patients in Asean countries on Saturday rose by 25,656, up from 25,181 on Friday, while 426 patients died, compared to 464 the previous day.

Total Covid-19 cases since the outbreak rose to 4,313,082 and 84,316 people have died.

Malaysia reported 5,793 new cases and 76 deaths on Saturday, bringing cumulative cases in the country to 652,204, while 3,844 have died.

During the country’s lockdown, stringent preventive measures have been imposed for public transportation, such as allowing only one passenger inside a taxi.

Vietnam reported 261 new cases and one death on Saturday, bringing cumulative cases in the country to 1,024 and deaths to 58.
