MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has advised dismissed Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro to “just quietly vanish into the night” because it would be hard to argue against evidence even if it also said she can still move to appeal her case.

“Naku, kung makikita niyo naman po ‘yung tape, nakita nating lahat ang pangyayari. So I think Ambassador Mauro, the best option is [to] just quietly vanish into the night,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online briefing Tuesday.

“Napakahirap pong sabihin na wala siyang pananagutan dahil meron po tayong physical evidence. ‘Wag na po nating ungkatin ‘yan dahil malinaw na malinaw po ang nakita natin sa pamamagitan po ng teknolohiya,” he added.

“She can of course move for reconsideration or appeal pero napakahirap po, hindi ko alam kung ano pang reconsideration ang gagawin niya because the decision was rendered by the President himself,” Roque said.

“Pupuwede po siyang mag-reconsider sa Office of the President pero napakahirap po kasi to argue with a video of what transpired,” he added.

Mauro’s dismissal comes with the cancellation of her eligibility, forfeiture of her retirement benefits, and perpetual disqualification from holding public office as she was also barred from taking civil service exams.
