2 rescued Filipino crewmen arrive in PH

2 Filipino survivors of the vessel that sank off Japan waters arrived in the Philippines via PH Airlines flight on Sept. 19. /DFA

MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipino survivors of the Gulf Livestock 1 vessel, which sank off Japan, were received by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday.

In a tweet, the foreign affairs department said chief officer Eduardo Sareno and deckhand Jay-nel Rosales arrived in the Philippines via Philippine Airlines flight.

“The (two) rescued crew members of Gulf Livestock-1 arrived home today after they were rescued from the capsized vessel that was caught in Typhoon Maysak in international waters in the East China Sea. They were received by DFA,” read the post.

To recall, the vessel owned by Gulf Navigation Holding based in the United Arab Emirates capsized early September after it met with an engine problem as the Typhoon Maysak hit Southern Japan seas.

The ship was carrying 43 seafarers. Of the number, 39 are from the Philippines, two Australia and two from New Zealand.

Sareno and Rosales were transported to the Kagoshima-ken Kenritsu Ooshima Hospital for treatment. Later on, they were transferred to  Hotel New Amami while waiting for their repatriation.
