108 new infections drive COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad to 8,614

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday reported 108 new infections of coronavirus among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total number of cases to 8,614.

According to the DFA, the increase in the number of infections among overseas Filipinos were “due to more accurate sourcing of data” and “late reports” received by the Philippines’ foreign service posts.

The DFA also recorded 17 new recoveries in Europe and the Middle East, bringing the total number of patients who recovered from the disease to 5,148.

There are 561 fatalities reported, including seven new deaths in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, 2,905 Filipinos remain under treatment abroad, according to the DFA

In the Philippines, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country breached 38,000, with 1,270 deaths.

Globally, over 10 million individuals have been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. Over 500,000 have died from the disease across the world.
