DFA: 34 more Filipinos overseas infected with coronavirus

MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-four more Filipinos abroad were diagnosed with the coronavirus disease 2019, increasing the total number of infected Filipinos overseas to 1,741.

As of Saturday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) also documented six more fatalities of the respiratory ailment, bringing the total tally of deaths to 207.

Meanwhile, 11 more patients survived COVID-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 465.

Of the 1,741 total COVID-19 cases, 1,069 Filipinos are being treated in hospitals abroad.

“It is our hope to see more recoveries in the coming days and eventually, zero fatalities among our people here and abroad,” DFA said in a statement.

The World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 a pandemic, as the disease has infected more than 3.3 million people worldwide and killed 238,788 while over 1.05 million managed to recover.

COVID-19 is caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei province in China in late 2019.
