63 more Filipinos abroad sickened with COVID-19; 15 new deaths recorded – DFA

MANILA, Philippines — Sixty-three more overseas Filipinos have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2, which causes the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday.

According to the DFA, the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad reached 1,185.

Of these cases, 177 have died, including 15 new fatalities, according to data released by the DFA.

Meanwhile, 689 patients are still undergoing treatment.

Some 319 have been discharged from hospitals or have recovered, the DFA added.

So far, the most COVID-related deaths among Filipinos abroad are recorded in the Americas with a total of 103 fatalities.

“With today’s pronouncement extending the (enhanced community quarantine) in (the National Capital Region) and several ‘high-risk’ areas in the country, the DFA, through its Foreign Service Posts, continues to partner with local health authorities and agencies as they continue to implement measures to “flatten the curve” of the COVID-19 pandemic in cooperation with our nationals abroad,” the DFA said.

“The DFA likewise maintains its commitment to providing our people the necessary assistance, as needed,” it added.
