MANILA, Philippines — The government has cautioned job hunters against accepting offers to work in Yukon, Canada, after authorities discovered that the supposed employment does not exist.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III said Tuesday that the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) found that some Filipinos are being lured to taking bogus job deals from a scammer using the name of a website of a real Yukon Human Resources practitioner. Authorities said the schemer dupe Filipinos to paying US$440 in exchange for work that turned out fake.

“The fraudsters took advantage of the Department’s announcement in September last year on the employment opportunities in various industries in Yukon,” Bello said in a statement.

Bello reminded job seekers to first validate employment job offers abroad through the official website of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), . He also advised the public to report suspicious activities on employment proposals at POEA’s [email protected].
