DFA: 80 Filipinos from quarantined cruise ship COVID-19 positive

MANILA, Philippines —Eighty Filipino crew members of the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship in Yokohama, Japan, have so far tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Tuesday.

“Per Tokyo [Philippine Embassy], 80 Filipinos from the Diamond Princess cruise have so far tested positive for COVID-19,” DFA Undersecretary Brigido Dulay said on Twitter.

Out of the 80 who tested positive, 10 were discharged from hospitals and given a  clean bill of health.

Remaining Filipino crew for repatriation today have all tested negative,” Dulay added.
Previously, the DFA said that the number of Filipinos infected with COVID-19 while aboard the MV Diamond Princess was at 59.

The DFA is set to repatriate more than 400 Filipinos crew members of the cruise ship  on Tuesday.

DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez, however, said that key Filipino crew members  may not join the repatriation, as they may be required to maintain and operate the ship.
