Autopsy awaited on OFW who ‘jumped to death’ in UAE

/ 05:28 AM October 17, 2019

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it would wait for the official autopsy before it “responds appropriately” to the suspicious death of an overseas Filipino worker in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Mary Jean Balag-ey Alberto, 44, allegedly jumped to her death from the 13th floor unit of her Moroccan employer in Abu Dhabi on Oct. 2.

Her family said she had asked to be rescued from her employer in her text messages the day before she died.

The DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi had assisted Alberto’s daughter in a case conference with UAE authorities and had retained a lawyer “to pursue immediate legal steps.”—Dona Z. Pazzibugan
