An Indonesian was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Monday morning after authorities found P54 million worth of crystal meth (“shabu”) in her luggage.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Naia said that Indonesian Agnes Alexandra was flagged upon her arrival from Cambodia early Monday, Oct. 7, as an X-ray of her luggage showed suspicious content.

Upon inspection, Customs personnel found 8 kilograms of crystal meth, wrapped in aluminum foil, tucked in the lining of her luggage.

Last week, the BOC also seized more than P35 million worth of crystal meth from a passenger from Vietnam who left his luggage at Naia.

The case prompted the BOC to place under red alert all flights originating from the “Golden Triangle” (Laos, Myanmar and Thailand) and neighboring countries, as it is believed that the syndicate named after this area is behind the illegal shipment./TSB
