Apas demolition
A Cebu City Regional Trial Court (RTC) judge approved a final extension of one month for 140 families in barangay Apas to vacate the privately owned lot that they now ocupy.
RTC judge Olegario Sarmiento said the settlers have until June 15 to vacate the 4.7-hectare lot owned by Mariano Godinez.
Lot occupants include the Philippine National Police Regional Training School Central Visayas (PNP-RTS) and Camp LapuLapu that occupy less than a hectare of Godinez’ lot.
The training center have already been destroyed earlier.
In 1997, Godinez filed a petition in court for the recovery of the lot where the PNP-RTS was built.
Article continues after this advertisementIn 2002, then RTC Branch 9 Judge Benigno Gaviola ruled that Godinez was the “absolute and exclusive owner of lot no. 937.”

Gabaldon Restoration
Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia is soliciting private sector participation in a plan to restore to its “original state” the 155 Gabaldon buildings located in the different parts of the province.
She also wanted the Galadon buildings, that were declared as heritage buildings during the administration of the late president Corazon Aquino insured after their restoration.
Gabaldon buildings are schoolshouses built during the American occupancy from 1907 to 1946.
These were named after Assemblyman Isauro Gabaldon of Nueva Ecija, who sponsored Republic Act No. 1801, which allowed the allocation of P1 million for the construction of these buildings to every municipality in the country.
Garcia said that she did not want to see these heritage buildings dilapidate and turn to rubble./Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
