IN PHOTOS: PH, US navies boost interoperability in group sail
The Philippines and United States navy vessels have trained at sea while en route to Darwin, Australia, for the Exercise Kakadu, in an apparent bid to boost the interoperability of the two allies.
Part of the exercise between BRP Ramon Alcaraz (FF-16) and USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112) along the waters of Banda Sea, Indonesia on Saturday included a replenishment at sea, photos from the Philippine Navy showed.
This type of exercise happens when two navies are in the same area and take the opportunity to develop coordination in joint operations.
The Philippine Navy warship will join 21 other countries to participate in Australia’s war games from Aug. 31 to Sept. 15.
Kakadu is the Australia’s largest maritime exercise, hosted biennially by the Royal Australian Navy. It is the third international defense and security engagement of the Philippine Navy this year. /je
