Fil-Ams to give free medical services

/ 10:17 AM May 14, 2011

A free medical and surgical mission will be offered to some barangays in Cebu City from May 23 to 27.

Barangay captain Dorotheo Emit of Pooc, Talisay City turned over on Thursday 23 boxes of medicines donated by Filipino-American volunteers from Tennessee, USA to the Cebu City government.

The medicines will then be handed over to Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for the operations in patients since Talisay City doesn’t have enough surgeons who would assist Fil-Am volunteers during the medical mission.

The surgical mission will cover thyroid, cyst and cleft palate operations, while the medical mission includes the distribution of free medicines and vitamins and free medical checkups.

Emit said the medical mission was first offered to the Mandaue City government for the Eversley Child Sanitarium hospital in barangay Jagobiao. But another group had already scheduled a medical mission ahead of them at the hospital.

Emit said he opted to offer the medical mission to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, an ally in the Liberal Party, who gladly accepted the offer.
