Slovakia shoulders return of Pinoy’s remains

The government of Slovakia has shouldered the repatriation of the remains of a 36-year old Filipino financial analyst who was beaten to death by a neo-Nazi while protecting his companions in the capital Bratislava next week.

Philippine Ambassador to Austria Cleofe Natividad said the government of the central European nation offered to provide an aircraft to bring home the remains and personal effects of Henry John Acorda.

Acorda’s mother and two siblings would also be in the flight which was tentatively scheduled on June 13.

The 36-year-old Acorda, who started to work for a multinational company in Bratislava only a year ago, was assaulted by a Slovak man whom Acorda tried to stop from harassing his two female companions from the Philippines and Poland. He died on May 31.

The suspect, Hiraj Hossu, 28, is now detained and charged with manslaughter.

Reports in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava, however, identified the suspect only as Juraj H.
