SWS: 84% of Filipinos worried of possible war between US, North Korea
More Filipinos fear that their country would be dragged into a possible armed conflict between the United States and North Korea, a nationwide survey during the last quarter of 2017 found.
In a media release on Thursday, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) said that 84 percent of Filipinos were worried that a war between the two states would arise.
From the 84 percent who were worried, the survey firm said 44 percent were “worried a great deal” while 40 percent were “somewhat worried.”
The remaining 16 percent, the SWS said, were “not worried” about any possible armed conflict between the US and North Korea. Twelve percent said they were “not too worried” while 4 percent said they were “not worried at all.”
Moreover, the polling body found that most survey respondents expressed fear that the Philippines would be involved should the US and North Korea engage in an armed conflict.
According to survey results, 88 percent were worried (55 percent were “worried a great deal” while 33 percent were “somewhat worried), while 12 percent “were not worried” (9 percent were “not too worried” while 2 percent were “not worried at all”).
Article continues after this advertisementThe survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults, aged 18 years old and above, nationwide. It has a margin of error of ±3% nationwide, ±4% for Luzon, and ±6% each for Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao, the SWS said. /je
