MANILA, Philippines—The government will maintain the ban on labor deployment to Libya despite the recent developments in the strife-torn northern African nation.

“We will continue monitoring the security situation in Libya to ascertain when is the right time to allow our overseas Filipino workers to return [there],” said Raul Hernandez, Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, in a text message.

“When the place is safe and secure for Filipinos to go back, we will inform the public accordingly,” he added.

Due to civil unrest in the country, the DFA earlier issued a travel advisory urging Filipinos to defer non-essential and non-urgent travels to Libya until the security situation in the country has stabilized.
