67 amnestied OFWs in Saudi to fly home on Thursday

Following President Rodrigo Duterte’s promise to bring home undocumented overseas Filipino workers from the Middle East, the government has announced that 67 Filipinos will be arriving in the Philippines on Thursday morning.

“A total of sixty-seven (67) overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who availed of the 90-day mass amnesty program of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be arriving at Naia (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) Terminal 2 tomorrow, 13 April 2017 at 10:05 A.M. via Philippine Airlines flight no. P.R. 0655,” the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement.

The DFA said it is working with the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh in “assisting this first batch of Filipino repatriates.”

On Monday, before leaving the Philippines, Duterte said he would bring home with him “those who were given clemency or pardon.”

Malacañang later clarified that Duterte’s comments referred to illegal immigrants who availed of the Saudi government’s amnesty program and not those who are on death row. IDL
