LA cops probing Fil-Am nursing student’s suspicious death

LOS ANGELES — The unexplained death of a 24-year-old Filipina from La Puente, California, which occurred sometime during the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 17, has drawn the suspicion of homicide detectives.

Nursing student Cassandra Salvador returned home from work on Saturday evening and was found unresponsive when her parents attempted to wake her the next morning, according to KCAL9 News.

Police officers who arrived at her house on the 13200 block of East Gyna Lane on Sunday, Sept. 18, sometime after 9 a.m. pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Salvador was reportedly in good health. Investigators are still unsure whether or not foul play was a factor.

“It doesn’t look natural, so we’re going to treat it as a homicide until we determine it’s otherwise,” LA County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina told local station NBC 4.

There were no signs of gunshot or stab wounds, but police say strangulation or drug overdose are still possibilities, according to reporters for KCAL9.

Fred Padrone, a family member who said he had known the deceased since she had emigrated from the Philippines, described Salvador as “very lovely, funny. She was a very nice kid.”

She had a boyfriend, who is cooperating with police.

Investigators are currently going over footage taken from the surveillance systems of nearby homes. Anyone who might have information that might benefit their investigation is encouraged to call the LA County Sheriff’s Department’s homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.
