San Diego Fil-Am student among 3 dead at music fest

SAN FRANCISCO – A San Diego State Filipino American young woman was one of three people who died at the HARD Summer Music Festival near Los Angeles at the end of July, it was reported recently.

San Diego State University student Alyssa Dominguez, 21, of San Diego, died at the festival held in at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California some 50 miles east of Los Angeles, where two other young people died July 30-31.

Dominguez died early Sunday morning at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Fontana, according to a report by the independent student newspaper .

Derek Lee, 22, of San Francisco, died early Sunday at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center after attending the festival. Roxanne Ngo, 22, of Chino Hills, died early Monday at Loma Linda University Medical Center. The coroner’s office is still investigating the deaths, which are believed to be unrelated.

Nearly 150,000 people attended the festival this year, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Nine people were transported from the festival over the weekend, including the three fatalities.

An LA County Sheriff’s spokeswoman said the cause of death had not been determined for any of the three individuals, including Dominguez.

Grieving friends posted on Dominguez’s Facebook account their memories of her as beautiful, kind and inspiring. She was reportedly a member of AB Samahan, a Filipino organization at SDSU.

The Festival was moved from its 2015 location at the Los Angeles County Fairground in Pomona to Fontana this year after two college students died of drug overdoses.
