Duterte condoles with Turkey

In one of his first acts on his first day in office, President Rodrigo Duterte sent his and the Filipino people’s condolences to the nation of Turkey which was hit by a terror attack at its main airport that left more than 40 people dead.

“Let me express the nation’s—in behalf of the people—our condolences to the Republic of Turkey for what has happened in their place. We offer our deepest condolences,” Duterte said toward the end of his speech after he had taken the oath of office on Thursday at Malacañang.

The Philippines on Thursday condemned the latest attack at the Istanbul airport that killed 42 people and wounded close to 150.

“The Filipino nation extends its sincerest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of this horrific crime,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. Leila B. Salaverria and Estrella Torres
