PH Chicago Consulate invites groups to plan Fil-Am History Month

CHICAGO – In anticipation of Filipino American History Month in October, the Philippine Consulate General here called on Filipino Americans in the Midwest states, as well as Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana—states under its jurisdiction—to hold various commemorative activities during that month.

Officers or representatives of Filipino American organizations are invited to a planning meeting on Thursday, September 10 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Kalayaan Hall of the Consulate General, 122 S. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1600, Chicago.

S. Resolution 298 passed by the U.S. Senate on October 1, 2009 and H. Resolution 780 passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on November 2, 2009, both recognized October as Filipino American History Month in the U.S.

Cultural attache Liezl Alcantara asks community leaders to send in the details of the respective Fil-Am History Month events to Ruben Salazar (email: [email protected]) for consolidation.

The Consulate General recently requested the respective offices of Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for the issuance of a proclamation declaring the month of October as Filipino American History Month.

Consul General Generoso Colonge asked Filipino American leaders of different villages to request a proclamation letter from their respective city/village mayors or managers.
