Abu Sayyaf eyed in Sabah abduction

Members of the Abu Sayyaf are believed to have abducted a couple in Sabah Thursday evening and may have brought them to Sulu, security officials said.
Senior Superintendent Abraham Orbita, Sulu provincial police chief, said his office has recieved information that the kidnap victims have arrived in the province, though this has yet to be confirmed.
“We have unconfirmed information that kidnap victims from Sandakan have already arrived in our AOR (area of responsibility),” Orbita said in a text message, without elaborating.
The abductors are most likely followers of Abu Sayyaf sub-commander Alhabsy Misaya, another security official said on condition of anonymity.
“Pagka ganyan, si Alhabsy ‘yan kasi sila ‘yung may matagal nang plano,” the official said, adding that Misaya’s group usually brings captives to Indanan or Parang towns.

Thursday’s abduction occurred just a week after Misaya’s group snatched a businesswoman in Siasi, Sulu, on May 6.
Five of Misaya’s men, however, were killed as relatives of businesswoman Guan Kim Maujon and armed barangay watchmen traded shots with the boat-riding abductors.
Maujon was found alive the next day, floating in waters between Parang and Tapul Island.
