Asian Art Museum to host talk on Asian image in mainstream media

SAN FRANCISCO — With shows like “Fresh Off the Boat,” Asian American writers, actors and artists are taking control of storytelling and representing their communities.

In response to the growing spotlight and representation of Asian Americans in the mainstream media, the Asian Art Museum is hosting Off Script — Shifting the Narrative on Monday, May 18, 2015, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. for free.

The event includes a conversation with the award-winning writer and scholar Jeff Chang, author of Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A history of the Hip-Hop Generation and Who We Be: The Colorization of America, and performances by Emmy-winning and one of Bay Area’s favorite comedians, Dhaya Lakshiminarayanan, author and Asian Pacific American arts organizer Jason Bayani and the young and talented musician, composer and arranger Matt Wong.
