Filipino seafarer from Togo cleared of Ebola

MANILA, Philippines—The Filipino seafarer suspected of having Ebola virus tested negative for the dreaded virus, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Saturday.

“Our embassy in Nigeria reported that test on a Filipino national yielded negative result for Ebola.  He was diagnosed with the flu,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Charles Jose said.

On August 22, the Filipino sailor in the West African country of Togo had reportedly caught the Ebola virus after suffering from bleeding and vomiting, symptoms of the deadly disease.
