Trillanes urges Senate to look into Edca

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV has formally asked the Senate to look into the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca) recently signed between the Philippines and the  United States.

In  Senate Resolution 623 filed Tuesday, Trillanes asked  the Senate to direct the committee on national defense and security, which he chairs, to inquire and look into the agreement “to clarify the contents and  coverage thereof and to examine the extent of the strategic military relationship between the US and RP under the said agreement.”

In filing the resolution, the senator noted that after the signing of the Edca there has been a clamor from the public, including from a number of legislators, for a “clarificatory review and/or briefing on the coverage and/or contents of the said defense agreement and is operational  details.”

“There appears to be an imperative need to review the Edca in order to clarify its coverage and  contents as well as the extent of the strategic military relationship between the US and  RP under the said agreement in order to promote transparency in this regard,” Trillanes said.
