MANILA, Philippines—Pope Francis has designated Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle as member of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, his sixth Vatican appointment, according to the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Tagle’s appointment to the Vatican office that oversees the world’s religious orders was officially announced in Rome on Saturday as the Pope continued Curia confirmations.

“This is his sixth membership in as many Vatican offices,” CBCP News, the official news service of the CBCP, quoted the Manila Archdiocesan Office of Communications as saying.

The cardinal’s new appointment came two weeks after he was named one of the three president delegates to the Third Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which will take place in the Vatican from Oct. 5 to 9.

The synod was being convened to discuss the theme of “pastoral challenges to the family in the context of evangelization,” said the CBCP.
